EWD is by nature a display technology so, unlike with conventional automotive rearview mirrors, graphic elements like icons are easy and inexpensive to integrate. Any area can act as transmissive color display and as dimming mirror.

For example, the mirror can show “fuel low” and other messages (drivers look in their rear view mirror on average every 15 seconds, and this is therefore an excellent place to display alerts).

Part of the mirror can also be used to display images from a rearview camera.
